Standardized Test Preparation

Our test preparation programs combine the most effective methods of test prep with a personal touch. First and foremost, we believe that knowledge of the subject is a prerequisite for successful test-taking. We encourage and help students to establish long term goals and acquire knowledge of the subject in a systemic and disciplined manner.

The scope of the test prep program is determined by Thinking Caps and the frequency and duration is customized for each student thus providing the opportunity to pinpoint weak areas and concentrate on improving them. We engage our students in a rigorous routine that includes review of all concepts and practice of targeted test and teach them efficient time management skills, test taking strategies and techniques on maintaining high levels of concentration for prolonged periods of time.

ISEE/SSAT

TCT instructors who specialize in working with middle school children prepare students for the SSAT or the ISEE for entry to the secondary school of choice. We recognize that for many students this is often the first major standardized exam that they experience and therefore employ a supportive and controlled introduction to test-taking techniques. Students are prepared for the exam through age-appropriate methods and approaches.

NYS Tests (Mathematics and ELA)

We offer a study regimen that focuses on reviewing foundations of language and mathematics and is designed to solidify grade-specific standards and introduce and fortify test taking strategies. A wide array of exercises builds understanding and confidence.

NYC Specialized High School Entrance Exam

We begin the preparation process with a thorough review of pertinent information and concepts in mathematics and English language. Special attention is paid to areas of weakness to ensure full comprehension of the subject matter. Students are introduced to test-taking strategies and learn to apply these methods.

NYS Regents

The Thinking Caps Prep Course for the Regents Exams are structured study regimens that include general overview of the content, target review of trouble spots, and several practice tests. These courses are designed to review the following subjects:

SAT

The Thinking Caps SAT Course is a two-part preparation that focuses on test strategies and content review, tailored to the needs of individual students. We begin with a thorough review of math, reading, vocabulary and writing skills. Once students develop an understanding of these core concepts they are introduced to test taking approaches. Students learn how to master timing, avoid making careless errors and apply personalized test-taking strategies by being exposed to simulated SAT tests.

SAT Subject Tests

The preparation begins with a diagnostic SAT Subject Test in the appropriate subject. Based on the result of the diagnostic test we design the course of preparation. Students work with TCT tutors to review concepts and relevant material and refine test-taking approaches.

Mock Testing

Practicing standardized tests under test-like conditions is an important component of standardized exam prep. As an integral part of our programs, TCT offers proctored exams for students preparing for any major standardized test. Students receive an individualized score report and the results of the exams are reviewed during regular tutoring sessions.

Mock Testing is also available for students who are not working with a TCT tutor.

We offer the necessary arrangements for students who are qualified for extra time.
